The Michelin man is known as Mr. Bib. His name was Bibendum in the company’s first ads in 1896, with the final finished version coming in 1898.

His dog is Bubbles the Tire Dog.

Interestingly enough, Mr. Bib is not the oldest corporate mascot. The Quaker Oats Pilgrim dates to 1877, and the beloved Aunt Jemima can be traced back to at least 1893.

Michelin is a great company to work for. My husband works for them. They have a new retail store in downtown Greenville where they flew a giant Bib for a while. It is moving but not sure where yet.

Company has a good overall reputation for quality in my experience. :tup:

My only negative experience with Michelin has zero to do with its commercial tire business, but instead its racing one - and a "little incident" to do with the 2005 US Formula 1 Grand Prix at Indianapolis.

Otherwise, I've heard their regular tires are good, though I've usually gone with Cooper, Pirelli and now the last several years Yokohamas as they have just seemed to work better with the vehicles I've owned and my style of driving.

I have a little Michelin Man key chain from back when. lol, and a Heinz pickle pin and a Mr Peanut whistle.

I thought the Michelin dog was named TREAD.

Bubbles and Tread are NOT two words that you want to put together when it comes to tires!! LOL

I used to manage a tire shop for five years, Michelin makes Awesome tires, but from a business man's point of view, I didn't want to sell them. There was very little profit margin in them. And btw, there are less Michelin's made in the US than just about any tire out there. Most are made in Brazil.

Michelin makes tires all over the world. They have several factories in SC. There are also others in other states. I am out of town or I could get exact numbers for you since my husband works for them in the North American HQ. I will ask him what he knows about the dog's name when I get home.

Did you also know that Michelin owns BF Goodrich?

Yes they own B. F Goodrich and Uniroyal too as well as truck, motorcylce and airplane tires.
