I didn't have any idea what this thread was about, and just clicked on it almost as an after thought. Hmmm, what would I miss. Well I can tell you it wouldn't be the telephone. Although if communications were down, that would have some affect on my future, it wouldn't be the key thing to affect me.
My friends and loved ones know that we are already stocked and ready for an emergency. The ones we care most about know that they are welcome to come to us. They know where we are and that we will be here getting things set up to keep as many of our friends and family alive as we can manage. We have given them tips on how to accomplish getting here. In an EMP, their cars wouldn't work, so that trip would be much harder and longer.
An EMP would once and for all tell us what we would lose. Since this hasn't actually happened before, except in small doses, nobody is too sure of what it would take out. Lots of theories about this. We saw on Jericho that it knocked out anything with a computer chip. One of the things that Jericho managed to get back online was the city water system. I am not too sure just how they did that, with water treatment facilities back working again. I think that is highly unlikely in reality. Actually, I can also remember that they were hauling water in from somewhere else, when they tried to make ice, and in Darcy's kitchen when she was cooking. So maybe the city water didn't come back on fully.
Number 1 on my list would a be clean, safe water supply. Next after that would be refrigeration. I am addicted to cold drinks. I carry a glass of iced tea with me everywhere I go, true story. I would miss ice immediately, just as a simple loss of that luxury. But also refrigeration to allow us to keep foodstuffs safely. At Briarpatch, we have both of these necessities covered. That is, if the EMP doesn't take out our generators and solar electric power plant.
